Urban Sanitation is a complex, but growing priority

World Water Week is a major conference for professionals working in the water and sanitation sector. Often, there is a release of many new papers and interesting dialogues spurred from this annual conference. This link offers an interesting blog from WSP related work. The first article highlights the urban sanitation challenge we now face and confirms the need for systems, thinking about sanitation solutions on how technology, consumers, markets and the enabling environment all require attention.

The “Poor Inclusive Urban Sanitation: An Overview” paper is also a good review of what we know and don’t know, and where we need to keep working.

This work re-enforces the direction of our reinvent the toilet initiative, as we are both looking at management and market mechanisms as we innovate around new toilet technology options.
